A Popped-into-My-Head Poem
I am pleased to share that my poem “To Live by the Sea” appears in Volume 15 of DASH Literary Journal. I had the pleasure of reading the poem over Zoom on launch day to the students in the class that produced the journal.
I’m not sure what kind of poem it is. Sort of Imagist but not really? The first line popped into my head one day, and I built a poem around it.
Lovely! Congrats on the latest publication!

Handwriting is the rub for me, too. If I don’t transcribe it on the computer right away, I can’t read my handwriting.

You might consider dictating into your phone. Assuming you have a phone that takes dictation.

This is lovely, Liz. Both the poem and the reading.
I write mostly prose, but when a poem pops into my head, it’s usually haiku, magically appearing like out of nowhere as a blessing, as yours is to me. Congratulations and Thank you!

Lovely, Liz. Ordinary experiences become extraordinary through poetry, when objective reality is experienced subjectively. I especially appreciate poetry which doesn’t fit into neat categories, just like people. 🙂

Thank you for your insightful comments, Mary Jo! There seems to be a paradoxical balance needed between categorizing something to better understand it and not categorizing it to better appreciate it.

Congrats on the publication, Liz. I loved listening to you read your poem, and the last line with the “path to the lighthouse” transported me right into an early childhood memory of the beach. I could feel the crushed shells of that path beneath my feet.
