Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. I have many blessings to be thankful for, including the blogging community. Thank you all for being so welcoming, supportive, and inspirational.
I’m also thankful for the simple pleasures in life, not the least of which is the delightful absurdity of a shaggy dog story set to music.
I give you Arlo Guthrie performing “Alice’s Restaurant,” as only he can do it. (If you are of the “Will you get to the point, Kid?” persuasion, this song might very well send you around the bend.)
Thank you for passing this along, Merril. I knew that the old church became the Guthrie Center, but I didn’t know the full extent of its community involvement.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Liz! Here in Spain, it’s just Thursday, but has been mild, with the bluest sky and warm sunshine. So thank you, Mother Nature! Love and Peace. xx
You’re welcome, Luanne! “Alice’s Restaurant” is a classic. My husband and I are having a delightfully relaxed day. I hope you and your husband are feeling better.
I did not know about the Alice’s Restaurant tradition. Happy Thanksgiving, Liz! Thankful for our connection, our conversations and the thought that there will be more to come. Sending hugs.
I do love Arlo! I am thankful for you, Liz, so glad you are part of my blogging community. One day we’ll get together, maybe at the Guthrie Center in Great Barrington. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving! It seems like a lovely tradition (we don’t have it in Sweden) and I think the more one reflects on what one has to be thankful for, the more one finds. It’s an exercise one should do more doften, for sure. 🙏
A belated Happy Thanksgiving Liz. I don’t think I wished you one. Good riddance with Twitter. I think I have one, but never use it.- LOL.
Congrats on the first draft. 👍🏻
Thank you for the Thanksgiving best wishes, Brian. I’m glad to be off Twitter. I much prefer the blogging community. I’m looking forward to the first draft’s rest period being up in January so I can get started on a developmental edit.
From what I’ve seen form afar, I’ve never really been tempted by Twitter. Though like I said, I have an account somewhere…
And yes, the blogging community seems much more… civilized…
Take a good rest.
Liz, my Thanksgiving was too hectic to have time to get to this post until now, many days later. It was still nice to be reminded of what I just celebrated and why. And it was a hoot to finally listen to the entire rendition of something I’ve been aware of most of my life but—amazingly!—until now had heard only the refrain for.
I guess you’re never too old to catch up with the culture of your youth. My gratitude to you!
It’s not Thanksgiving without a visit with Alice. Thanks for assuring me I’m not the only one who loves this tradition!

You have a extra slice of pumpkin pie Liz for me!

One of the radio stations here, WXPN, play Alice’s Restaurant at noon on Thanksgiving. We’ve also seen him perform it live.

I’ve seen him perform live twice. I don’t remember if he did “Alice’s Restaurant.”
